Abstract

Recently, attention has been shifted by many authors to new and more flexible distributions useful for modelling life time data. Hence, in this paper, a new four- parameter lifetime model, called the Transmuted Weibull Rayleigh distribution (TWRD), an extension of Weibull Rayleigh distribution, is defined and studied. The approach of Quadratic Rank Transmutation Map (QRTM) is used to obtain a new distribution. Some of its properties such as reliability function, moments, quantile function and order statistics are derived and the method of maximum likelihood estimation is used for estimating the model parameters. It was observed that, the probability density takes many forms such as symmetric, asymmetric, unimodal or bathtub depending on the values of the parameters. The usefulness of the transmuted Weibull Rayleigh distribution for modelling data is illustrated using real data.
